Friday March 23rd to Sunday March 25th 2012 | Dum Dum Diddly Dum Dum Exploring Balkan Rhythms and Dance with Mandy de Winter Mandy has always had a deep passion for the dances from the Balkans and a fascination with their unusual and unique rhythms. She has travelled a great deal in these countries and learned from native teachers as well as international specialists such as Yves Moreau. For this weekend, Mandy will select and teach a repertoire of dances bringing her knowledge and experience as a musician, dancer and teacher to this workshop to: ~ Illustrate the difference between dances in 3 and 4 time with the 7 time of the Bulgarian Makedonsko and Racenica rhythms ~ Explore and compare the rhythmic structure of some Greek dances. ~ Extend the principle of how uneven dance rhythms are expressed in other Balkan time signatures such as 9 and 11 time by including a few of these dances in the programme. Mandy’s approach will be experiential i.e. experiencing and learning through the body and through the dances she has chosen. Please bring a drum and other percussive instruments as there will also be some drumming as part of this experience. AT: The Royal Agricultural College, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
